Our Impact

The NCESE partners are walking together towards a common vision: an inclusive and nurturing educational environment for all our students, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable young people in our community. Our short-term impacts are felt mostly by our students, their families and our partner schools, but in the medium and long term the benefits for the whole community are much greater, as school engagement is associated with many important positive outcomes later in life.

Case studies - NCESE partner schools

” Roxburgh Homestead is privileged to have a strong educational partnership with NCESE for the past four years.  The support is tailored to our needs and based in mental health and trauma informed practices.

They have been instrumental in building our staff capacity in trauma informed practices and understanding and building mindfulness through the CARE program.  They also provide a community of practice with leadership teams, across a number of schools, to explore effective structures, strategies and practices based on the child centred approach.  In particular, they are in service to children and families experiencing trauma and expressing this through high deregulation and tier 3 behaviours.  They wrap around the school, the child and the family to support self-regulation, and social skills to re-engage and reconnect with mainstream school environments and their demands. The work of Project Real has made all the difference in enabling our students to re-engage with school and build skills in self-regulation and reconnection with others.  They fill a vital, missing piece, in mainstream educational practices, as they are responsive to the child and to their complex needs and support them in the context of school and home. We feel that at all levels of the school that our knowledge and practice of blending wellbeing and academic curricula deepened because of NCESE partnership and approach.”

Case studies - NCESE partner schools

“Project Real has been a big support in helping our school make improvements to our whole school wellbeing scope and sequence and classroom wellbeing teaching and learning program. They have been instrumental in ensuring we are embedding core wellbeing practices across the school each day to support the development of connection and emotional regulation for all our students. They have provided the school with a vast number of resources we utilise to teach students how to regulate their emotions and understand the brain/body connection. They have also helped the school build upon the SWPBS practices already in place, and further develop staff capacity to respond to major and minor behaviours through a trauma informed lens, providing staff with tools and strategies they can put into practice immediately. Project Real have also supported the school through a variety of professional learning sessions for our teaching and education support staff. These sessions have focused on developing teacher/student relationships around the pillars of unconditional regard and being a safe adult. These professional learning sessions have helped build staff confidence and capacity to provide support to our most vulnerable students, ensuring school is a safe and supportive place for them. Alongside this, the support they have provided to the families directly engaged with Project Real has been invaluable. Helping our school build positive connections with the parents and students to ensure a continued engagement in school and support for all aspects of the student’ development. We are very grateful for the extensive supports provided by Project Real and the NCESE as a whole and look forward to growing our partnership into the future to bring about further positive changes within our school and broader community.”
